Q: What motivated you to join the Flashpoint Board of Directors?
Joining Flashpoint’s Board allows me to work with an experienced and world-class team as they continue to grow and meet the challenges of a rapidly changing cybersecurity market. It allows me to draw on my domain expertise in threat intelligence and my experience as a successful entrepreneur to help guide the company through their next phase of growth. I was also impressed with Flashpoint’s well established position in the market and the opportunity to work with a mature but rapidly growing company on such an important mission.
Q: What makes Flashpoint’s mission meaningful to you?
I was directly responsible for launching the cyber intelligence field over 20 years ago and continue to maintain deep roots in the community today so this mission has been a focus of mine for the bulk of my professional career. Given the evolution of cyber threats, we need companies like Flashpoint keeping the bad actors in check and enabling organizations to effectively and efficiently manage cyber risk with threat-informed security programs.
Q: Where do you see the biggest opportunity for Flashpoint?
Flashpoint’s services and intelligence products provide a key component to managing cyber risk, which is the ability to understand which threat actors are targeting organizations, how that targeting is taking place, and how those attackers are innovating and evolving. Any modern organization that is trying to manage cyber risk needs that critical threat insight as a core component of their cyber defense strategy. Flashpoint has built a world-class team of experts and a threat intelligence delivery technology stack that allows for direct analyst queries through the portal while also enabling automation through APIs that provides high value intelligence to their customers and partners. As cyber attackers continue to innovate and engage in attacks Flashpoint will continue to serve as a valuable partner to their existing clients and the demand for threat intelligence services is only going to increase. Every day companies become more dependent on technology to enable the success of their business, the market for threat intelligence is only going to increase as it remains one of the highest ROI cyber defense investments a company of any size can make.
Q: In a crowded threat/risk intelligence market, what sets Flashpoint apart?
I tend to view the market as having two primary components; the Human Intelligence (HUMINT) that seeks to understand the threat actors and their motivations and tactics, techniques, and procedures; and Technical Intelligence (TECHINT) that provides the machine readable indicators of current and emerging attacks. Flashpoint has always had a focus on the HUMINT element of the threat actors which is the most difficult and nuanced capability to create and maintain and that differentiates them in the delivery of high quality primary sourced HUMINT and their ability to discover and deliver technical intelligence and indicators with real threat context.
