Bringing Business Risk Intelligence to Asia-Pacific
Home to key innovators in industries such as technology, oil and gas, manufacturing, retail, and financial services, Asia-Pacific provides an opportunity for prosperity and commerce. Unfortunately due to this success, malicious actors often seek to exploit organizations in this region.
The threat landscape in Asia is shifting as markets and business practices evolve. Flashpoint analysts have been monitoring several trends within Asia-Pacific, specifically in relation to the region’s core industries, including:
As highlighted in the latest installment of Flashpoint’s BRI Decision Report, analysts have observed that cybercriminals are increasingly recruiting insiders in the financial services industry to carry out a variety of fraudulent or otherwise illicit schemes. Given the robust footprint of major financial institutions throughout Asia-Pacific, this trend should be a crucial consideration among security and risk decision makers in the region.
Another notable trend in Asia-Pacific is the proliferation of hacktivist activity geared toward retailers. Hacktivism is often defined as the subversive use of computers and networks to promote a group’s political or social agenda. For example, a hacktivist-fueled campaign recently targeted a large retail conglomerate in South Korea. Boycotts were organized by hacktivists who did not agree with the company’s deal to cede a portion of golf course property to the government for national defense purposes. As a result, the company’s websites were subject to DDoS attacks and defacement.
Oil and Gas
The region’s critical role in the production and supply of oil and gas presents additional areas of risk that may not fall under the jurisdiction of traditional security programs. For example, one-third of global crude oil and half of global liquified natural gas is transported through the South China Sea, making it a high-risk area. Past incidents include hackers targeting supply routes, shutting down an oil rig, and infecting another with malware that took 19 days to repair.
Given that the threat landscape in Asia-Pacific continues to increase in size and complexity, Business Risk Intelligence (BRI) has become a requirement. By equipping organizations across all sectors globally with a strategic advantage over a broad spectrum of threats and adversaries, Flashpoint’s BRI enables decision makers to combat relevant threats and mitigate enterprise-wide risk.
We are very excited to bring Business Risk Intelligence (BRI) to the Asia-Pacific market and are eager to meet with you onsite at Black Hat Asia this week. Schedule a meeting with one of our experts here: https://go.flashpoint-intel.com/BlackHat-Asia/contact/request-meeting.
