Egyptian Jihadist Tharwat Salah Shehata “in Solidarity with Our Muslim Brothers in Egypt"

On February 2, 2011, Tharwat Salah Shehata issued a message on behalf of the Islamic Jihad Movement (EIJ) "in solidarity with our Muslim brothers in Egypt”. He urged “the army and the honorable ones from the security forces, to side with…the Ummah and to side with the people, and history will not forget your stand alongside your Ummah and its choices.” According to the al-Maqreze Center, Shehata was “the first generation of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad” and “was a Shura Council member of the Jihad Group”. And “He was convicted in absentia and twice sentenced to death by an Egyptian military court: the first in the case of the attempted assassination of the former Prime Minister Dr. Atef Sidqi in 1994, and the second in the ‘Albanian Returnees’ case in 1999”.
