Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb: Abu Musaab Abdelwadoud's Statement to the Libyan People

abu.musab.abdulwadoud.fpOn October 3, 2011, Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) leader Abu Musab Abdelwadoud released a statement titled, "Congratulations on the Victory of the Grandsons of Omar al-Mukhtar." Addressing the Libyan rebels, he said, "our biggest celebration this year is the victory of your great jihad and blessed revolution." He asserted that "Libya must be governed by...Shariah law... No external or internal faction has any right to negotiate over it." And he advised that "The Libyan people...should not be blackmailed...[nor] follow the evil dictates of America, NATO and apostate Arab regimes that worked on disparaging the honest popular revolutions."
