On February 21, 2012, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the Taliban) issued a statement condemning reports that “the American invaders [in Afghanistan], in accordance with their barbaric characteristics once again burnt copies [of the Quran].” In the statement, the Taliban criticized the “puppet regime” in Kabul for “endorsing” the Americans’ actions by “harassing, shooting, and dispersing Muslim demonstrators”, rather than “condemning or preventing [the invaders’] actions.” The statement also called on “human rights organizations to prevent such barbaric actions of the Americans from taking place.”
