On January 5, 2012, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the Taliban) issued a statement rejecting the legitimacy of Hamid Karzai’s government. The statement alleged that the actions of Karzai’s “Puppet Administration” reflect the “factional” interests of its warlord allies, rather than the national interests of the Afghan people. Labeling the Administration corrupt, “anti-Islamic”, and incompetent, the Taliban stated, “The Mujahidin of the Islamic Emirate will continue traversing their natural path of advancement thanks to the support of the people. The history has it that no invading power has ever been able to block the way of this country for freedom.”
