Shabaab al-Mujahideen: “Closure of Christian Organizations Operating Inside Somalia”

On August 8, 2010, Shabaab al-Mujahideen’s Office for Supervising the Affairs of Foreign Agencies (OSAFA) announced that World Vision, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), and Diakonia “can no longer operate inside Somalia” because “Acting as missionaries under the guise of humanitarian work, the organizations have been spreading their corrupted ideologies in order to taint the pure creed of the Muslims in Somalia.” OSAFA threatened that “Any other organizations found to be engaged in similar activities as the above are hereby warned that they will be promptly closed, as the propagation of the Christian faith is unacceptable in Islam as well as in the Muslim society."

Pakistani Taliban Claims Responsibility for Killing Reza Haider

On August 3, 2010, the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for killing the “rejectionist apostate Reza Haider—may Allah punish him as he deserves—along with three of his companions and his son, by shooting him in the town of Nazimabad in the city of Karachi." Haider was a senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader and a member of the Pakstani parliament; his assassination set off violence that left more than 45 dead in Karachi.

AQAP Claims Responsibility for Killing Six Yemeni Soldiers in Shabwa Province

On August 7, 2010, Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) claimed responsibility for killing six Yemeni soldiers in the city of Aatq in the eastern province of Shabwa. In addition, AQAP captured “a booty of four machine guns and two bags of ammunition.”

Shabaab al-Mujahideen Announces al-Kataib News Channel

KataibLogoOn July 24, 2010, Shabaab al-Mujahideen announced “the birth of ‘Al-Kataib News Channel.’ A news channel that specializes in transmitting the truth directly from the field, with voice and picture, with reasons and proof, and which the [media] team will work on sleeplessly, in efforts to transmit the news of the mujahideen directly to the people, away from the fraud, manipulation and trickery of the media channels of falsehood and fabrication…” Shabaab intends that “this channel becomes the podium of truth for the mujahideen, and a thorn in the throats of the disbelievers and the hypocrites…” In Shabaab’s view, “The media war the mujahideen are engaged in is now one of the most intense, ferocious battles and the most important one in our war against the disbelieving Zionist-Crusade…”
